Troubleshooting, support and FAQ
Q1: I'm keep getting "Error starting server" when trying to run a game. This happens in both singleplayer and multiplayermode.
A1: This is probably caused by another program on your computer occupying network resources called "ports". Snok uses a default set of ports for it's network communication, and can't work if any other programs are using these ports. This problem may be solved by entering Setup->Network in Snok. Try to enter something like this:
Server
TCP connectport 4000
UDP Sendport 4001
UDP Listenport 4002
Client
TCP Connect port 4000
UDP Sendport 4002
UDP Listenport 4001
These numbers may be replaced with any number between 1000 and 60000. "Connect port" must be the same at both client and server. The server's sendport must be the same as the client's listenport and vice versa. Also note that if you're playing a multiplayer game, all clients need to be setup with the same network configuration.
Q2: In multiplayer->IP network game it's IMPOSSIBLE to enter anything but three-digit ipnumbers! Are you guys complete idiots?
A2: No and no. I admit this interface isn't very intuitive, but if you're writing an IP-number and don't want anymore digits, just press the right arrow. That will move the cursor to the next IP-field.
Q2: The game is running INCREDIBLY slow. What am I doing wrong?
A2: Snok needs OpenGL drivers. Check that you have these installed, or reinstall the videodrivers from your videocardvendor's website.
Q3: Snok is STILL running INCREDIBLY slow! What am I doing wrong now then?
A3: Your videocard might not be 3D-accelerated. Snok is more or less dependent on a decent 3D-card to run at acceptable framerate. You may still play it by changing the settings in the config-program: Start it by selecting the snok-shortcut from your startmenu. Select "options" and turn of the "fullscren" checkbox. Then enter the desired windowsize; smaller window gives higher framerate and vice versa. Any windowsize below 320x240 will require a magnifying glass.
Q4: The game suddenly crashed. I didn't do it!
A4: Please read the Bugreport section in your usermanual.
Q5: I'm not able to start Snok at all...
A5: To play Snok you have to install the TCP/IP protocol on your computer. To install the TCP/IP protocol you actually have to have a network card.
Q5: I'm running a local area network at my place. But I'm not able to find any Snokservers...?
A5: To play Snok on a local area network, all computers should be located on the same subnet. That means you have to enter the network setupmenu in Windows (Control panel->Network). Locate the TCP/IP protocol and select "properties". The "subnet mask" must be the same on all computers and the "IP-address" should be very alike, i.e. 100.100.100.100 and 100.100.100.101.
Q6: I get an errormessage saying "Error initializing FMod".
A6: Shut down any application that may utilize your soundcard, e.g. Winamp.
Q7: I've shut down all my applications, and I'm still getting and FMOD-error ("error recognizing fileformat" or something).
A7: Several people experience this problem, and it might be caused by a bug in the FMOD-library. This will be fixed in the next patch, probably to be released within a week or so.
Try to describe the error as accurate as possible, include your hardware spesifications and mail it to torbjorv@tihlde.org
