Download Snok final version! (OpenGL, NT/98/2000, 26MB)|
02.08.2001 |
This will probably be the last posting ever. I'm shutting down the Snok project, as I consider it finished. No
more work will be done, unless someone comes along and offers me money for creating more levels/gameplay. It's
no problem creating a "full" version with a whole bunch of levels, and selling it. But creating levels are
far too much work for me to do alone, at least for free. There's still a tutorial for creating your own levels
in the documents-section. If someone does serious attempts on creating levels, please notify me, and I'll
upload them to this page if I like them. This page still gets about 80 hits a day, and I've registered a
total of at least 15.000 downloads around the web. Snok has also been included with two gaming magazines
(in Germany and Brazil). |

I've uploaded a version 1.1 of Snok today... It contains a whole bunch of BRILLIANT new music, and also a few bugfixes! Please enter the download-section now!!! A unpacked version of the songs will be released in a few days. |
|
15.06.2001 |
I'm moving out of my office today, and won't answer mails every day for a while. But all mails will be answered. Be patient. Keep those comments and bugreports coming! |
|
14.06.2001 |
I've created a Support-section containing a sort of FAQ/Support/Troubleshooting guide. It will contain all the stuff we didn't manage to include in the manual shipped with the game. There's now also a Tips'n Tricks-section containing a few tips regarding playing Snok. Anyone interested in being the unbeatable Snokchampion in multiplayer games should visit this one. Anyone discovering special tactics or tricks may mail them to me, and I'll put them on the site. |
|
13.06.2001 |
The entire source for both the game and the 3D-engine is now available on the download page! All the gamedata is also available in unpacked format. Please read the information next to the download link. I'll try to setup a small "Tips & tricks" page for Snok tomorrow, as there actually are some tips and tricks in this game. :) |

Damn, I can't seem to do anything right today. I fixed the bug mention belov earlier today, but somehow built the installpackage wrong. The correct installpackage is uploaded in a few minutes. If you already downloaded the package, just download the update. |
|
11.06.2001 |
Heh... A small update on that final version. If anyone actually downloaded that game since last night... If you're tired of that stupid click-sound while driving around your Snok, please download the update. I'm also planning to release the entire sourcecode this week, and of course all the gamedata. If anyone want to create more levels for Snok, check out the tutorial in the download-section. The existing levels will be released in raw-format within a few days, so you can learn from them. |

SNOK FINAL VERSION! Please enter the download section and download! |
|
29.05.2001 |
The game is just about finished! By next weekend I'll release it, even though there will still be a few things left out. All gamefunctionality is implemented, so it should be a lot more fun to play now. Mainly in multiplayermode that is. And snok.demonews.com is also up and running again. |
|
18.04.2001 |
snok.demonews.com is still not working properly. That means the downloadsection hasn't worked for a while, but I've added a mirror now. |
|
07.03.2001 |
I've taken a break in the modelling and started implementing the final gameplayfeatures. They will make this game a lot more exciting to play, especially in multiplayermode. |
|
14.02.2001 |
A new level is almost finished, go check out the screenshots. I've had trouble logging into snok.demonews.com lately, so there's a mirror at www.tihlde.org/~torbjorv/snok. |
|
07.02.2001 |
Designed a new head today and uploaded a few screenshots of it. It turned out really nice! |
|
19.01.2001 |
Well well! The first screenshots from the new levels are now uploaded to the screenshot-section! This level will probably be finished this weekend. |
|
05.01.2001 |
Long time, no update. According to our logs, this page still gets about 10 hits per day. To these 10 people I can tell you that Snok will be finished! Levels are being modelled, and at the time we have 5 nice, playable levels the rest of the gameplay will be implemented. Keep checking this page for screenshots of new levels! |
|
09.10.2000 |
I've received mails from a few people interested in creating levels for Snok. I guess they all are sitting around experimenting with it right now (let's hope so). Just keep an eye on this page and there might come some new levels soon! |
|
03.10.2000 |
This update will most likely be the last update ever. It actually depends on you guys. We still have only have one level for the game, and I won't implement anymore gameplay as long as there is only one level. So please... mail me if you feel like doing some Lightwave modelling. It could actually be a very nice way to promote your work... |
|
03.10.2000 |
NEW UPDATE! Please download the new update from the download section! It contains a lot of bugfixes and optimizations. All videocards should experience at least a 25% speedup. The package also contains all the tutorial for creation of your very own Snok-levels! |
|
02.10.2000 |
Last week I presented Snok at a scienceevent in my homecity. A guy showed up and told me he could easily create a few levels. Ufortunately I totally forgot to get his email-address, so could you please (!) mail me? :) |
|
02.10.2000 |
It seems like the update that is released in the downloadsection is corrupt. Or more correct: it contains a serious bug that prevents Snok from running. I have an update here that will be uploaded within a few days, with a whole bunch of new features! |
|
13.09.2000 |
We have rearranged the Documents section. The link called "Final Report" now is a section overview of the entire project. And yes, I know some of the documents are norwegian, while others are in english. This is done on purpose; all technical documentation is in english, while all the administrative documents is in norwegian. |
|
09.08.2000 |
For Snok to be released, we need "experienced" LIGHTWAVE modellers to create SNOK-LEVELS! Please read the following message! |
|
09.08.2000 |
Just writing a small message here to tell that Snok is not dead. In a few days I'm transferred from this location in the Norwegian army to a computer-related job. Hopefully with internet access. I'll buy a brand new computer, and continue developing the last missing parts of Snok. Early autumn I hope to release a more or less finished version with all the planned gamefeatures and technical features. For this to happen, I need people to create levels for Snok! These levels are created with LightWave, and there's a tutorial on how to do it available on this website (download section). If you're interested in modelling levels for Snok, please mail me. Keep in mind that this is a non-profit project and could be a very nice way to promote yourself as a realtime 3D modeller. |
|
20.07.2000 |
The game is now officially hosted at snok.demonews.com. This page will still be updated and the two sites will be mirroring each other. Please keep sending us comments and bug reports. I'm currently being held prisoner in the norwegian army, but they actually have an internetcafe here, so I can read mail. Not able to code anything though. :( |
|
10.07.2000 |
Okay... I wrote a gameconcept document that has been reviewed by FunCom. And what can I say? Slaughter? I guess that's the right word. :) Without showing any mercy AT ALL, they practically said that anyone playing this game must be a complete jerk. If noone knew, this is the first gameconsept I've EVER written. By the way, the original gameconsept document I wrote is also added to the "Documents" section. Feel free to comment both the concept and the review. :) |
|
07.07.2000 |
In four days I'm joining the Norwegian army. That means this website won't be updated so often for a while. It depends on what service I get of course. Anyway, I'll try to upload a new version of the game soon. I've done a lot of improvements that should be released, but I don't think I'll manage to do it today, so it might take a couple of weeks/months. I'll also meet with at least one company on Monday, regarding commercializing Snok. I'll update this page again on Monday to keep you informed. |
|
06.07.2000 |
I've started implementing a simple level-of-detail algorithm on the Snok bodies. I've discovered that such functionality is almost required to keep the FPS up in a multiplayer environment with several huge Snoks. The algo will reduce the geometry on a per-segment basis, where the highest level will have 16 faces (as it is now) and the lowest will have 6. |
|
05.07.2000 |
I just had to put in this: We got top grade on our project. :) For you who are not norwegian, that means we got 1.0 on a scale from 1.0 to 6.0 |
|
30.06.2000 |
Implemented support for mousecontrol. |
|
30.06.2000 |
Implemented adjustable keyboard acceleration and deacceleration. |
|
26.06.2000 |
Uploaded some new screenshots, demonstrating the abilities for third person view in the game. Very nice... :) Also we've got the message that Snok probably will be included on a CD with a Portuguese computermagazine called "BGamer". |
|
23.06.2000 |
Started writing a gamedesign document, describing all victoryconditions, bonuspickups etc. Check out the "Documents"- section, and feel free to send me comments/suggestions. |
|
23.06.2000 |
Fixed some more bugs (i.e. the collision detection sometimes failing to detect collision. :) |
|
16.06.2000 |
Discovered several nasty bugs in the largo.exe included in the leveleditingtutorial released yesterday. If someone actually downloaded this package last night, please download it again. |
|
15.06.2000 |
Okay! I've finished the levelediting-tutorial and uploaded it on the website. Check out the "download"-section. Anyone who try to create a level, please mail me your results and comments of the tutorial. I'm very curious about what people can achieve with this. Also, I've written a small article about the game that will soon be released on www.cfxweb.net |
|
14.06.2000 |
Still working on the level editing tutorial. Not finished tonight either. I'll try tomorrow. :) |
|
13.06.2000 |
Updated the "Future plans"-list. Check out the Documents-section. |
|
13.06.2000 |
I've started writing a tutorial on how to create your own Snok-levels. Will be finished within Thursday. Probably tomorrow. |
